Most definitely, and not only are the action oriented, they are proactive. They don’t wait for things to happen, they make them happen.

Do you fit into this category?

If not, here are some action-oriented techniques to apply each day.

Determine your most productive time of the day and dedicate it to “I” time. “I” time is for you to do whatever you have to do that will bring you closer to achieving your goals. It may be as simple as visualizing the accomplishment of your goals or doing what you have to do, for you. The point is to dedicate the most productive time for the most important person in the world.

You have already set your goals and action plans and have prioritized the actions. Take your annual goals and break them down into months, weeks and, finally, days. Do the same with each day’s activities. Break the large tasks down into small, manageable pieces. Try to accomplish some of these pieces each day. Before long you will have accomplished a large task.

End each day by writing a prioritized to-do list for the next day. At the end of each week and month do the same for the next week and month. Get organized. Use a daily planner. You will be better organized if you write down everything.

Clear your mind of clutter. Solve problems while they are small. Whatever you do, do it once, to the best of your ability, and move on. Question all tasks to make sure they are worthwhile. Do the worst or hardest jobs first.

Be decisive and remove time wasters, such as interruptions, from all of your activities. Remember to take care of yourself by exercising, watching your diet, and maintaining a balance in your life. And when evening comes and your next day’s to-do list is written, celebrate. Action that gets rewarded gets repeated. Do this for 30 days and you will be transformed into an action-oriented, do-it-now person.

An action-oriented person is proactive. When you are proactive, you have initiative—you can see a need, figure out how to best satisfy it, determine the appropriate time to take the right action, and proceed. When you are proactive, you lead. When you lead, you take control of yourself and get the things you want out of life.

Try using the visualization technique to help yourself become action oriented. When you set your goals you pictured something that you wanted to have, be or do. Everything we have or do is preceded by an image in our mind. Visualization is seeing the end result. It is a form of mental rehearsal. Through the use of imagination, what you see is what you will get.

Your vision of your goals must be clear. There is a difference between ‘dreaming about having something in the future’ and ‘visualizing having it in the future.’ The power to believe makes the difference. Visualizing implies a structured and disciplined view of what you are trying to accomplish.

Through visualization you picture yourself already in possession of your goal. By visualizing you look at your goal from many different viewpoints. By examining your goal from all of the viewpoints, you see the situation clearly and can act on the aspects that will result in the greatest payback.

Go put your creed into your deed.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Make this a daily discipline. Visualize to actualize your goals. Forget all your inhibitions. See things as you want them to be, not as they are. Take time to sit back, close your eyes, and see yourself accomplishing your goal. You are watching a movie based on the success that you have become. Focus your attention on the results. See yourself there. Feel the emotions. See the colors, the details; hear the sounds.

If you form a clear and detailed picture of your future, ways and means of getting it will be revealed to you. Keep focusing on what you want, not on how you will do it. The laws of nature will take over. The more you visualize, the more resources you will attract. Your vision will act as a magnet. It will attract people, events and circumstances to it. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And when you’re having a difficult moment during the day, take the time to visualize the accomplishment of your goal. It will refocus and relax you, and the issue of the moment will matter less. The major incident of today will probably be insignificant in the future. Don’t trip over molehills.

Try visualizing right now. Project yourself six months into the future. Select one of your short-range goals. Now get comfortable and close your eyes. See yourself accomplishing your goal. You are now successfully there. You made it, you’re living and breathing it. Use your imagination. See all the details, hear the sounds, feel the emotions, and celebrate. Visualize this for the next five minutes. Focus on the success.

I recommend that you get into the habit of doing this daily. Your enthusiastic attitude about your vision will not only keep you motivated, it will get others excited about your dream.

Just as thoughts can control feelings and feelings control behavior, the reverse is also true. If you change your behavior you can change your feelings and ultimately your thoughts. It is not how you feel that determines how you act, it is how you act that determines how you feel. For example, if you pull your shoulders back, lift your head high, force yourself to smile and cheerfully greet others, you will find your mood changing.

The same process applies to self-talk. Feed your mind negative thoughts and it will produce negative actions. Feed your mind positive, confident information and your mind will react in kind. You cannot completely control the circumstances around you, but you can control what you say to yourself and how you think.

These techniques, all easy to do, are the daily steps that will lead you to success. Each success breeds success. There will be obstacles along the way, and when they get in your way, be ready for them. You must persist. Stick to it. You will get things done, and meet your objectives and goals. Keep in mind that often when we are ready to quit, success lies just around the corner. Don’t ever give up on taking action. Make your dreams happen!

Here are some action-oriented techniques to apply each day.

Determine your most productive time of the day and dedicate it to “I” time. I time is for you to do whatever you have to do that will bring you closer to achieving your goals, or new year resolutions. It may be as simple as visualizing the accomplishment of your goals or doing what you have to do just for you. The point is to dedicate the most productive time to the most important person in the world – YOU!

Hopefully, you have already set your new year resolutions or goals and action plans; and have prioritized the actions. Take your annual goals and break them down into months, weeks, and finally days. Prepare in the same way for each day’s activities. Separate the large tasks into small, manageable pieces. Try to accomplish some of these smaller tasks each day. Before long, you will have accomplished a large task.

I recommend you end each day by writing a prioritized “to-do” list for the next day. Similarly, at the end of each week and each month, prepare a list for the following week and month. Plainly speaking, get organized. Learn to utilize a daily planner. You will be better organized if you write everything in your planner.

Another piece of advice, clear your mind of clutter. Solve all problems while they are small. Whatever you do, do it only once and to the best of your ability. Then, move on. Question all tasks to make sure they are worthwhile. Do the most unfavorable or hardest jobs first.

Be decisive and remove time wasters, such as interruptions, from all of your activities. Remember to take care of yourself by exercising, by watching your diet, and by maintaining a balance in your life. When evening arrives and your next day’s “to-do” list is written, then it is time to celebrate. Action that gets rewarded gets repeated. Follow these steps for 30 days and you will be transformed into an action-oriented, do-it-now person.

An action-oriented person is proactive. When you are proactive, you have initiative. You are able to see a need, to figure out how to best satisfy that need, to determine the appropriate time to take the right action, and to proceed. When you are proactive, you lead. When you lead, you take control of yourself and get the things you want out of life.

Try using the visualization technique to help yourself become action oriented. When you set your goals, you picture something that you want to have, to be or to do. Everything we have or do is preceded by an image in our mind. Visualization is seeing the end result. It is a form of mental rehearsal. Through the use of imagination, what you see is what you will get.

You must have a clear vision of your goals. There is a difference between ‘dreaming about having something in the future’ and ‘visualizing having it in the future.’ The power of believing makes all the difference. Visualizing implies a structured and disciplined view of what you are trying to accomplish.

Through visualization, you picture yourself already in possession of your goal. By visualizing, you look at your goal from many different viewpoints. By examining your goal from all of the viewpoints, you see the situation clearly and can act on those aspects that will result in the greatest payback.

Go put your creed into your deed.

Make this a daily discipline. Visualize in order to actualize your goals. Forget all your inhibitions. See things as you want them to be, not as they are. Take time to sit back, close your eyes, and see yourself accomplishing your goal. You are watching a movie based on your personal success. Focus your attention on the results. See yourself at that moment. Feel the emotions. See the colors and the details, and hear the sounds.

If you form a clear and detailed picture of your future, the ways and means of getting there will be revealed to you. Keep focusing on what you want, not on how you will do it. The laws of nature will take over. The more you visualize the more resources you will attract. Your vision will act as a magnet. It will attract people, events and circumstances to it like a flame. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And when you’re having a difficult moment during the day, take the time to visualize the accomplishment of your goal. It will help you to refocus and to relax, and the issue of the moment will matter less. The major incident of today will probably be insignificant in the future. Don’t trip over molehills.

I recommend that you get into the habit of doing this daily. Your enthusiasm concerning your vision will not only keep you motivated, it will get others excited about your dream too.

You will get things done and you will meet your objectives and reach your goals. Keep in mind that often when we are ready to quit, success lies just around the corner.

Don’t ever relinquish taking action. Make your dreams come true!

There are things in life that we cannot control and things that are within our full control. One of the first things we must do is get into the habit of distinguishing which is which. Then, we can begin to take control of our lives and our destiny.

Each day we go out into the world where we are faced with the many external influences that are not part of who we are. These external influences are not within our control and are the basis for predominantly negative reactions. We are affected by such influences as: the weather, the news, the traffic, the crowds of people or the lack of people and all the unconstructive comments.

When you wake up to a rainy day instead of a sunny day, do you see things differently?

When you get caught in traffic, how do you react?

When faced with an obstacle or failure, what do you do?

How you react is within your full control. You have freedom of choice. You can choose to react favourably to a rainy day just as you would react to a sunny day. You have the choice to appreciate the good effects of rain or you can complain about the clouds.

When you get caught in a traffic jam, you have two choices. You can get upset, which doesn’t do you any good since traffic is not within your control or you can use the time in traffic to visualize your dreams.

When you face an obstacle, you can choose to be discouraged and even quit or you can seek out the hidden opportunity and learn from the experience.

The problem is that generally people are not taking control of their thoughts, which are within our control.

The secret is: take control of your thoughts. We all work with one infinite power. We all guide ourselves by exactly the same laws. These are the natural laws of the universe. The law of attraction, the most powerful law in the universe, states that whatever is going on in your mind, you are attracting. The law of attraction says like attracts like, so your thoughts attract like thoughts.

Your thoughts of today author your tomorrow.

The law of attraction originated at the beginning of time. It has always been and it will always be. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are, the law of attraction is forming your entire life experience, and this powerful law is strengthened by your thoughts. You are the one who calls the law of attraction into action thanks to the art of positive thinking.

A state of mind cannot be purchased, it must be created. Your state of mind is your thought. You can improve the quality of your life by managing your thoughts by reframing them to empower rather than depress you.

As an adult, you have absolute control of your own thoughts. Your thoughts control your attitude and determine how you react to situations. Your thoughts define you! You are the author of your future.

You have created your own fears, your own limitations and your own barriers. You are currently the person your thoughts depict based on your past experiences.

You have the ability to control your own state of mind and you can overcome habits and even fears. You have the capability and the right to accept or reject your thoughts. It’s called willpower.

If you fail to control your own mind, how can you control anything else? Control your thoughts or your thoughts will control you. You cannot compromise. Mind control is a result of self-discipline and habit. Keep your mind busy with a definite purpose backed by a definite plan.

Your thought process and your reactions make the difference in your life. In order to take control of your own life, you must first identify the things you cannot control versus the things you can control.

Habits are powerful factors in our lives. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character and produce our effectiveness…or ineffectiveness.
Stephen R. Covey

There are many types of people in this world but when it comes to decision making, there are only three. Which type are you?

1. There are those who just don’t know what they want in life or simply cannot make a decision. For example Andrij, my summer student, didn’t know what he wanted or where he was going. He didn’t realize he had a choice. He was wandering around without focusing on anything and hoping that circumstance would take care of him.

2. There are those who wish and dream but do nothing about it. These are the type of people who are hoping for a winning lottery ticket. You have heard them: “If I won a million dollars, I would…” They expect something for nothing and they don’t realize there is a price to pay for everything in life. They must make an effort.

3. There are those who know what they want, plan for it, and go out and get it. These are the people others usually refer to as “lucky”. However, these people had a dream. They created a plan and implemented it. They persisted and maybe even failed along the way until they got what they wanted.

Which type are you?

Which type do you want to be?

You just made a decision. If you didn’t, return now and make one. Rest assured you will soon have to make many other decisions. If you decide you want to be a Type 1 or Type 2, nothing will change. You will remain externally driven and a product of your environment.

If you decide you want to be a Type 3, you have taken your first step towards personal leadership. You have decided to be the author of your future and to live the life of your dreams. You have decided to identify what you want, to plan for it, and to make it happen. This is an everlasting, internally driven process. This is the point at which true motivation originates.

The first step to internal (self) motivation is decision making. Decide to do something about your life and not just accept what comes along. You will need discipline and courage, determination and persistence, imagination, a positive attitude, a strong belief in yourself, and faith that nothing is impossible.

In the book Disciplined for Life, You Are the Author of Your Future, you
will be provided with direction, exercises, and tools to get you where you’ve never been before.

You will drown your greatest fears, you will live your greatest moments, and you will fulfil your deepest dreams simply because you made a decision to be the author of your future.

If you prefer to accept life as it comes, don’t bother reading any further. You will be wasting your time. This book is dedicated to those who are prepared to pay the price by working hard, by utilizing discipline and determination in order to take control of their lives and their destination.

Take the time now to think about your options. Think about the obstacles, the work involved, and the possible outcomes. You could decide to live a life without change or effort or decision; or you could decide to take action and become the author of your future and live the life you choose.

Which decision will it be?

Self motivation and motivation in general is all about dreams. Dreams are the foundation to permanent and ever lasting motivation.

Self motivation starts with a dream. It is a desire to be, to do or to have something. However, it doesn’t stop there. It requires a plan and then, the need to take action. Those actions need to be monitored and measured for lasting motivation.

Self motivation is an internal and not an external process. Most organizations do not know how to motivate people. They use external influences as motivators. This external motivation is temporary – it is never lasting. As soon as you get a carrot, you want a bigger one the next time round.

Nobody but you can motivate you. All others can do is create an environment in which people motivate themselves. To do that requires engagement strategies, trust and empowerment for the employee.

If organizations took the time to discover the internal dreams of their employees, and put plans in place to help employees realize their dreams, they would capture the art of motivation.

But let’s not wait for others to do that. You must do it for yourself. You need to make time for you, the most important person in the world, and discover for yourself what you want to be, to do or to have in life.

Take 24 hours and focus on what you want to be, to do or to have in life. Write down everything, as if nothing is impossible and there are no limitations or barriers. Pretend that if it is not written down, it will not happen and contrary to that, what is written down will happen.

This simple act will crystallize all of your dreams and provide you with more self motivation than you can imagine.

Want more self-motivation? Seek it from the inside out and document all of the dreams inside of you. Write a list of all the things you want to be, to do or to have as if nothing is impossible.

Don’t procrastinate, do it now!

Positive thinking during down times is not only possible, it is mandatory, and more so now than ever before!

What you think about is what you attract into your life. Negative thoughts attract certain conditions in your life, as does positive thinking. You have the ability to make any thought a reality. Mix those thoughts with emotion and they have an even greater impact on becoming reality.

You have to be more aware of your thoughts – are they negative or positive? Are they helping you go where you want to go or be what you want to be? Or are your thoughts a hindrance and prevent you from achieving your goals?

Do you want to attract positive thinking, and forward moving dreams and circumstances into your life? Both are possible and it all starts with your thoughts and personal self talk. Positive thinking is within your control, as is self talk, so why not choose to take control of your life?

Many people have a natural tendency to be negative during down times. An idle mind, or one influenced by a pessimistic environment, attracts negative self talk and thought. The more negative one becomes the more one lacks self esteem and self respect. Ones self confidence diminishes as does ones self motivation.

This is exactly what happened to a lady I recently met, who asked me to provide her with some life coaching as we entered the New Year. She lost her self confidence and self esteem and she described herself in a very negative fashion. She got caught up in an unconstructive environment and lost sight of the power of positive thinking.

However, she realized that she was trapped and asked for help. It has only been two weeks since we have implemented a daily behaviour plan, however we can see an amazing difference in her overall being. She is becoming part of a whole new positive thinking environment. She is utilizing the power of positive thinking and is improving her self esteem, self respect, self confidence and self worth from the inside-out.

We all have many choices in life.

We can focus on all the things that are wrong in this world and all the things we don’t want or we can appreciate and seek the good that is all around us while visualizing and thinking positively of the future.

It is your choice. Make a decision:

1. Do you want to live a life of prosperity through positive thinking?

OR

2.	Do you want to live a life with nothing on the horizon due to negative thinking?

Please note that positive words usually start with a P and negative words begin with an N.

These 12 motivation is a continuation from part 1. Click here to read part 1

Self Motivation Tip #7:

Get to know yourself. Question your self motivation. What are your values? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Is self motivation realized by focusing on your strengths? What motivates you? What de-motivates you? Self motivation questions your fears and limitations? How can you overcome them? What are your ineffective habits? What effective habits can replace them? Dig deep and answer these questions honestly as they relate to self motivation.

Self Motivation Tip #8:

Set aside some quiet time just for yourself everyday. Set a time to reflect on self motivation. I once took a day off work and gave myself 24 hours to write down everything I wanted to be, to do and to have. I decided nothing was impossible and there were no barriers. I imagined how my life would be affected if everything I wrote on that paper came true. Consequently, if I didn’t write in all down in 24 hours, nothing in my life would change. I would be closing the door on self motivation. Now it is 30 years later and I have accomplished most of my dreams and goals that I penned all those years ago. I exercise self motivation every day.

Self Motivation Tip #9:

Self motivation is knowing where you want to go and what you want to achieve. It is very unlikely you will enjoy success without self motivation. Success is the progressive realization of a goal and a dream. However, it is only a dream unless it is in print. Crystallization of a dream begins with writing it on paper. Write everything from the inside-out imagining nothing is impossible. Self motivation has no barriers, no limitations, and no fears. Group, categorize and prioritize all of your dreams and learn the secret to enhanced self motivation.

Self Motivation Tip #10:

Review your list of dreams often. Make it a daily habit. Dreams are the foundation to self motivation and must be written, planned, visualized and put into action. Prioritize your dreams and determine the price you are willing to pay to make your dreams a reality. The price could be effort, time, education, etc. If this form of self motivation does not appeal to you, revisit your priorities.

Self motivation Tip #11:

Part of self motivation is knowing what you want to do and creating an action plan for success. Keep each action point simple, so it can be accomplished. Large tasks usually get shelved, so minimize them. When your action plan is ready for implementation, commit to doing it by signing your name to it. Your signature should be the strongest commitment to yourself.

Self motivation Tip #12:

Take action. Self motivation is the actual doing. Thinking leads to procrastination, so stop thinking, just do it! The worst outcome is failure. You already know that you have to fail often to succeed once. Give yourself permission to have learning opportunities which usually transpire by doing and failing. You will need to employ all 12 self motivation tips if success is in your foreseeable future.

Wake up in the morning with an attitude of appreciation. Why? Simply because you woke up. When asked,”how are you today?” your answer should be, “fantastic, excellent or great”.

G.R.E.A.T. stands for Getting Really Excited About Today. You are excited because you woke up, you can see, hear, walk, talk, etc.; however, today could be your last day. Why not make it the greatest day of your life? This is a great self motivation tip to live by.

Self motivation Tip #2:

Self motivation should begin the moment you wake up. What can you do for you? After all, you are the most important person in the world. If you are unable to grasp self motivation and do something special for yourself, you certainly won’t be able to do anything helpful or productive for anyone else. A self motivation tip is to do something for you first.

Self motivation Tip #3:

Self motivation is just beginning. Once you have done something special for yourself, recognize and reward yourself with a glass of juice, a cup of coffee or breakfast. It’s a small treat, however any behaviour that is recognized and rewarded, gets repeated. Self motivation needs recognition and only you can provide it.

Self Motivation Tip #4:

Understand that no one provides self motivation, only you can motivate yourself. Self motivation can hail from external influences which are never lasting or better yet, self motivation can be internal and ever lasting. Live your life from the inside out not the outside in and embrace undeviating self motivation.

Self Motivation Tip #5:

Make a decision. Choose self motivation and live the life of your dreams. Do you really want to live someone else’s dream, a combination of your dream and theirs or do you want to leave life to chance and circumstance? In the realm of self motivation, it doesn’t matter what you decide. You are the decision maker and by utilizing self motivation you will make that decision work. Go ahead, make a decision now and enhance your self motivation.

Self Motivation Tip #6:

Self motivation is taking control of your life. You cannot control the weather, the traffic and even what other people say. Therefore, if you cannot control it, let it be. Alternatively, there are things in life you can control. Learning to control your thoughts, your ego, your reactions and most importantly, your attitude is all part of self motivation. Knowing you have gained control of your outlook and approach to daily life, will increase your self motivation.

You came into this world as a ten with a high level of self confidence, self esteem and self respect. You are a miracle. You are one of over 40 million sperms to survive. You are here for a reason. You had courage and self confidence when you were young. What happened?

You got exposed to the outside world and let a lot of negativity, doubt and fear enter your life. By letting the outside come inside, you have created yourself as you are. You have lowered you self confidence by letting the outside in. You are not only the most important person in the world, but you are also your greatest enemy, by allowing your self confidence to diminish.

You have created your own fears, doubts, limitations and barriers. You have created who you are and only you can renew you and increase your level of self confidence.. It is time for your to do a review on your life, and remove those destructive beliefs within. Your self confidence could be higher than what it is simply by removing some of the negative baggage that you are carrying around and replacing it with some positive actions. Actions that build self confidence, not destroy it.

What do you, and most of the population in the world do when they fail? Right, they beat themselves up. They criticize themselves and in the process lower their self confidence, self esteem and self respect.

We all know that you have the right to fail. You also know that you have to fail often to succeed. You also know that success comes from good judgement. Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from doing things, and most importantly from failing and learning from those failures.

Why not use this to increase self confidence instead of destroying self confidence.

However, society has lost track of the benefits of failing and the lessons learned when one fails. Instead of recognizing the good with get out of failure, which can be used to build our self confidence, we end up being critical of ourselves and destroying our self confidence.

Self confidence is your level of belief in yourself. If you do not believe in you, will anyone else believe in you. Stop being critical of yourself and start doing the opposite of what you have been doing. That is if you want to build your self confidence.

When you fail, accept that. However, don’t be critical. It takes less energy to find a lesson learned than to be critical. Once you have found the lesson learned, congratulate yourself and tap yourself on the shoulder for having the courage for trying something your never did before. This simple act will build your self confidence. As you build your self confidence, your courage will return.

Give yourself permission to have at least ten learning opportunities a day. That means permission to fail ten times a day. Then you can congratulate yourself by tapping yourself on the shoulder and build your self confidence more often during the day.

The Bottom Line – You have to fail often to succeed once. How your react to failure is under your control. Why not react in a positive manner and build up your self confidence instead of being self critical and lowering your self confidence. The higher your level self-confidence, without it going to your head, the higher your level of courage will be.
