How Sales Greetings By Retailers Can Lead To Sales Results

8:39 am Sales Techniques

Retailers please wake up and stop using your traditional greetings! When you ask the typical question, “Can I help you?” what answer do you always get in return?

The common response is: “No thank you, I’m just looking!”

If you continue to receive the same answer to your question, it is time to ask better questions. Therefore, step back and try a new approach.

How do you prefer to be greeted when you entered a retail outlet? Do you like to feel important and comfortable? Of course you do, and so does everyone else who walks in.

Your job is to ensure every visitor is acknowledged and made to feel welcome in your outlet. The simple fact they are walking into your store is a privilege. Shouldn’t you demonstrate your appreciation immediately?

Why not greet them with a smile and “Welcome to …, we really appreciate you taking the time to visit us today.”

Then, allow them some space to look around without being followed. You might add the following to the initial greeting: “My name is Bob and if I can be of any assistance, just call out Bob and I will be there to help you.”

This sincere greeting will ensure the customer is comfortable in your outlet and is assured of polite service when he is ready.

When the customer does call upon you, ask him how he would like to be addressed. Then, use his name often to reflect a more personal approach and make him feel important. Everyone loves to be referred to by name.

Be thankful you have prospects coming into your store. Show your appreciation and become their friend. This should be your number one objective, as people will buy from someone they know, they like, and they trust.

Experiment with several new greetings until you find the best one that reflects your personality. Remember, you have to fail often to succeed once. Find your most successful greeting and stay with it.

Good luck greeting everyone with appreciation and sincerity!
