Do
you have the right to your dreams, desires and expectations
and to have what you want?
Can you imagine what life would be like if we could not dream?
What would the world look like? Where would we be today? It
all starts with a dream. Have a dream, mixed with some emotion,
desire and belief that you will achieve it, and bingo, you’ve
got it.
Think back to a dream or a desire you once had. Did you live
it? I have, and I could tell you about many occasions where
my dreams have become reality. For example, I can remember
when I was in my early twenties, I wanted to own my own home.
I didn’t want to pay rent, because I saw that money
just flying out of the window -- I got no return other than
shelter. My soon-to-be-wife and I dreamed of owning our own
home in the Gatineau Hills. We had a strong desire, and having
both graduated and started our first jobs, we expected it
to be feasible. We expected it to happen. However, few things
come easily, as you will see learn later on. Our dream, our
desire and our persistence to win were tested many time.
We made an offer on a house. We wanted it, but we didn’t
get it. We were too young, not in our jobs long enough, and
didn’t have enough money for a deposit. All the external
forces told me it was not possible. Internally, I knew it
was possible. It was my right to have what I wanted.
After being rejected, we realized that we had to get creative.
We got a personal loan and bought a building lot.
When we said we were going to build a home, everyone asked,
“What do you know about building? You’ve never
even held a hammer.” My response was, “So, I’ll
learn. Building a house is not rocket science.” All
the external forces were telling me, “You can’t
have it, you can’t do it, it’s impossible.”
But I believed in myself and I didn’t let those negative
forces stop me from living my dream.
Doesn’t this happen to us often? When we want to have
something, the external forces are there to tell us differently.
We could fall into the trap, forget the whole stupid idea,
and go on with our mediocre lives. Yet, if we believe enough
in ourselves and in our dreams, if we persist and expect to
succeed, things have a way of working out and so they did.
