Greetings from Montreal,
Thanks to one of our subscribers from Pakistan, I learned
that it was not only the Chinese New Year but also the Muslim
New Year. Their calendar does not follow the Julian Calendar
but is a Lunar system with differently named months of 29
or 30 days each. As per the lunar cycle the first month of
the Muslim year is Muharram and it has fallen on the 31st
of January this time.
Similarly the Muslim calculate the years not according to
the Christian years as in 2006 rather they calculate the first
year at the year when the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) migrated
from the city of Makkah to Madina in Saudi Arabia. Thus according
to their system the current year which has just started is
1427. Happy Muslim New Year!
Enjoy hearing and reading about the foundation of Success
