Hi,
Greetings from Ottawa, Canada where spring is in the
air and summer is around the corner, we hope. Thank
you for being with us again this month and welcome
to all the new subscribers!
The past month was full of events. Upon returning
from seven weeks on the road, it was nice to be
home. My youngest son Dave also returned home
that weekend from skiing all winter in Whistler, British
Columbia. Then the following week our Golden
Retriever dog, Baillie, had to be put down after 11
wonderful years with us. My oldest son Mike is
almost finished building his house and my wife and I
celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary.
In June my wife and I will continue to celebrate our
anniversary in Italy. This means I may not be able to
communicate with you via e-mail as quick as I would
like to, especially if I would like to see more years of
marriage. Therefore my 24-hour response will not be
in effect from June 14 to July 6, but the newsletter
will be out the last Tuesday of June as usual. Thank
you for your understanding.
May started with a keynote at the District 61
Toastmasters Spring conference in Ottawa. Claire Beaulne, my Certified
Associate who adopted Online
for Life into the French language, and I shared the
keynote in a bilingual format. It was our first
share-the-stage talk and the feedback was
extremely positive, thanks to all the learning we both
received over the years from being members of
Toastmasters.
Last week I conducted a one-day public workshop in
Dubai on Team Skills. Right Selection, my Middle
East representatives did a great job at bringing in
teams from a variety of Industries - thank you
Gautam and Ram and thank you to each of the
participants that were in attendance. A big think you
also goes to the supporting sponsors - KLM, Café
Ceramique, Dubai Radio Network and Human Assets.
Without your support the day would not have been
the success that it was.
As you know, all of our programs are customized for
in-house delivery and we thank those of you who we
have worked with us, not only in the past month, but
also to those of you whom we have partnered with
on an ongoing basis over the past years. To learn
more about our In-house programs, review
our corporate approach.
I would also like to thank everyone who took the
time to complete the online survey. The winner
of a complete set of Online for Life Learning tools is
Kadambari VenuGopal of Dubai. Congratulations!

Last month, this month and in June we are going to
focus on Employee Recognition and Praise in three
parts: April - Motivating Factors in the Workplace,
May - Recognition & Praise: Where to Start, and
finally In June - Making it Happen.
We have also included some tips on Making a Rewards Program Work.
Enjoy the read and provide me your comments
too! Bob
PS - Regarding the Tsunami Orphans, donations (10%
of monthly revenues) this month have been made

from Tsunami 2004 Trust

Employee Recognition and Praise.
Does it improve performance and productivity?
Does it keep them motivated and loyal?
Motivating Factors in the Workplace (part 2 of 3)
Recognition & Praise - Where to Start?
So based on last month's article, is it fair to say that
money, over and above wages, is not a main
motivating factor, but full appreciation of work done
is? This is recognition: the number one factor in
maintaining a motivated staff.

| "Up Your Bottom Line" Testimonial |

Dear Mr. Urichuck, I began noticing your
work since the beginning of your Positive Business
Minute
radio segments on News Radio 93.8 (Singapore). The
things you said hit me like a rock! Then I found out
about your book launch appearance at the NAC. I
attended it and I found your segment the best of
all. Listening to your talk was not enough so I
bought your book "Up Your Bottom Line", and a copy
of your CD. I listened to it so much that I could split
the topics discussed on the CD into tracks and
seconds. Hearing your voice triggers off my mental
anchors, which I have established during your NAC
talk. I was so pumped up then, I really cannot forget
that feeling. Oh yeah, your son was pretty good
too, speaking in front of thousands of strangers.
This e-mail is just my way of saying "thank you" and
letting you know how much your book and CD
changed my way of thinking and life too. In the
past, I had very low self-esteem because I was a
salesman, to survive I need to cheat, lie and
swindle. After listening to your CD, I became proud
to be a salesman, and loving every minute of it!
